Cision pricing is not published. Buyers report a median contract of about $12,625 a year, with deals from roughly $3,150 to $30,368 in Vendr's data, and SpendHound puts the average for mid-size companies near $10,600 a year. Most contracts run 12 months, are paid up front and renew automatically. If you only use Cision to monitor mentions, a self-serve media monitoring tool such as MentionRadar costs $49 to $499 a month and also tracks what ChatGPT says about your brand.

Cision is the default PR suite in a lot of US communications teams. It bundles a journalist database, media monitoring, press release distribution through PR Newswire and PRWeb, and reporting. Since it bought Brandwatch in 2021, it can also sell social listening on top. That breadth is the reason teams sign, and it is also why the renewal quote surprises people: you pay for the whole bundle even if your team opens the monitoring tab every morning and little else.

This page pulls the real numbers together, explains what drives a Cision quote, and lines up the alternatives by the job you actually need done.

How much does Cision cost?

Cision costs about $12,625 a year at the median, based on 107 purchases tracked by Vendr, with a low of about $3,150 and a high of about $30,368. SpendHound reports an average of $10,618 a year for companies with 50 to 1,000 employees and $87,883 for enterprises. Price depends on seats, package, regions covered and contract length.

Two patterns show up in buyer data. Multi-year deals usually lower the yearly price, and renewals commonly rise 3 to 7 percent a year. Contracts often renew automatically unless you give notice 30 to 60 days before the end date, so put that date in your calendar the day you sign.

Does Cision publish its pricing?

No. Cision does not list prices or tiers on its website, and every CisionOne package goes through a sales quote. The packages currently described are Journalist Outreach, Media Monitoring, Monitoring plus Social, and Suite. PRWeb is the exception, with public per-release prices, and PR Newswire distribution is quoted separately from the platform.

That means the price you get depends heavily on how you frame the request. If you ask for "Cision", you will be shown the Suite. If you ask only for monitoring, say so in writing, and ask the rep to confirm which modules, seats and countries the quote covers.

What drives a Cision media monitoring quote?

Five things move the number most. Seats come first, since each user adds cost. Then coverage, because US-only online news is cheaper than global news plus print and broadcast. Social listening through Brandwatch is a separate line. The media database is priced on contact access. Finally, term length, where a two or three year commitment is traded for a lower yearly rate.

For a small team, the honest question is which of those you open every week. If the answer is "the mention feed and the monthly coverage report", most of the bill is for modules you do not use.

Is Cision worth the money?

Cision is worth it if your team pitches journalists every week, distributes releases through PR Newswire, and needs print and broadcast clips. Few tools combine all three. It is hard to justify for a team that mostly monitors online mentions and reports on them, because a monitoring tool does that job for a fraction of the price.

It also leaves a newer gap. Buyers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews which vendor to pick, and a classic media monitoring suite does not tell you whether those engines name you or a competitor. For many brands that answer now matters as much as a mention in a trade outlet.

When MentionRadar replaces Cision

MentionRadar collects mentions from online news, blogs, forums, Reddit, Hacker News, review sites, YouTube and X, scores sentiment, tracks share of voice against your competitors and sends alerts on negative or high reach mentions. On the same plan it runs your buyer prompts every week in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, and adds Gemini and Claude from Growth, recording whether you are named, recommended and which pages are cited.

Starter is $49 a month for 3 keywords and 5,000 mentions. Growth is $149 a month for 10 keywords, 30,000 mentions, 5 seats, Slack alerts and scheduled PDF reports. Agency is $499 for 15 client workspaces with white-label reports. Plans are monthly and you can cancel any time, which removes the renewal-notice problem entirely.

When Cision is still the right call

MentionRadar has no journalist database, no press release distribution and no print, TV or radio monitoring. If those carry your program, stay on Cision or compare it with Meltwater and Muck Rack. Some teams split the stack: they keep a smaller Cision or Muck Rack package for outreach and move daily monitoring to a cheaper tool. If outreach is the only reason you kept the media database, a verified email finder can cover reporter contact lookups for a much smaller list at a much smaller cost.

How to cut a Cision renewal quote

  1. Pull your usage first. Count logins per seat and which modules were opened in the last 90 days. Unused seats and modules are the easiest lines to remove.
  2. Ask for a monitoring-only quote. Request the Media Monitoring package without the database and social add-ons, in writing, so you can compare like for like.
  3. Price the alternative before the call. Run a scan of your brand in a self-serve tool and bring a real number. A $1,788 a year Growth plan next to a $12,000 quote changes the conversation.
  4. Check the notice date. If the contract renews automatically with 30 to 60 days notice, send a written non-renewal notice before negotiating. You can always sign again.

What does Cision include for social listening?

Cision sells social listening through its Monitoring plus Social and Suite packages, and through Brandwatch, which it owns. Brandwatch is priced separately and buyer data puts its median contract far above Cision's monitoring package. Our Brandwatch pricing and alternatives post covers that number. MentionRadar includes Reddit, YouTube and X, but not Facebook, Instagram or TikTok.

The short version

Cision has no public price, and real contracts cluster around $10,000 to $13,000 a year, more with social listening or several seats. It earns that price for teams that pitch, distribute and need broadcast clips. If your daily work is watching online coverage and reporting on it, and you want to know whether AI assistants recommend you, start with a scan at the top of the social listening tool page, then compare plans on MentionRadar pricing.
